SUBLIME KINGDOM LIGHT TOPIC: Christ, our great high priest and intercessor TEXT: Hebrews 7: 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. INTRODUCTION: Christ is our everlasting high priest who is full of power. His priesthood was not restricted by any force of nature or darkness. Christ offered the sacrifice of His own flesh. MESSAGE: Levitical priests are ordained by the order of the law to conduct the service of atonement of sin by their daily and yearly (continuous) sacrifice of bulls and rams. A high priest is a ritual expert, he is obsessed with the techniques and order of worshipping God through the offering of gift of animals as stipulated by God. Any man under the jurisdiction of priesthood is encumbered with the responsibility of a mediator between men and their God. Every high priest assumes the office of an intercessor. Prior to our text, the word of God laid emphasis on the restrictions and constraints experienced by the high priests who appeared before Jesus. They were limited by death from continuing their obligation as the priests of Most High God; once a priest dies another will emerge the podium and begin to discharge the priestly function. Thus, they were many in number who existed before the priesthood of Jesus Christ. And this necessitated the need for a new high priest with no limitation, that is the high priest of Jesus Christ. He came and offered the sacrifice of His flesh in exchange of bulls and rams, not only for the atonement of our sins but also to take away our sins. To destroy the power of sins. He offered His body to die and rose again from death; by that way, He conquered the power of death. Consequently, He never died again. He remains unlimited by death. Hallelujah!. As He rose from death, He lives for ever more. And we need no other high priest, for He holds His priesthood permanently. The sacrifice of His body was once and for all! Jesus Christ, our new High priest takes up the position of an intercessor to save us from the wrath of God and judgement of sin(1 Timothy 2:5). He became our saviour. Formerly, mere men who were not in the order of priests were not able to access God by themselves, they depended rather on the priests. But the priesthood of Jesus Christ brought an end to that hostility. He opened an everlasting door of His body so that we can have unending communion with God our Father. His priesthood gave us justification from the condemnation of our sin through His blood. It gave us platform to exist and function in the ability of God on the account of His mercy. Thus, the word of God said that He is able to save those who draw near to through Him all the time. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Anyone who does not have Christ in his life is in a terrible dilemma of death and eternal damnation. COUNSEL: The essence of priesthood of Jesus Christ is to set us free from the grip and slavery of sin, therefore, don't live your life controlled by sin anymore. PRAYER: Oh Lord help me to live above sin by the power of your priesthood. In Jesus name.. Amen.
